Famous for its strong winds and heavy shorebreak, the visiting sailors put on a show for the local crew (all three of them…) and the viewers of this show. Lot’s of high loops, strong cutbacks, heavy aerials and unavoidable wipeouts at this sand dune beach…

Canoe Sailing: In ancient times Hawaiians utilized sailing canoes for trade and warfare among the tribes of the island chain. Nowadays, the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association (HSCA) replicates those ancient voyages and cultural values. The new sailing canoes hold 6 crew and can reach speeds of up 30 mph in open water – the Hawaiian channels are known to be some of the roughest in the world, and the small and precarious sailing canoes deliver adrenaline loaded races along the stunning Hawaiian shoreline. This particular race starts on the Big Island and ends, 40 nautical miles later, in Hana, Maui. Gale force winds make the race an episode of ‘survival at sea’…

Skateboarding: even though skateboarding is becoming continuously more mainstream, the roots of the sport are still well alive and kicking… The 420 race in Honolulu is a prime example of the underground skating society at work… Every April 20th at 4:20 PM the top skaters from the State (and many from the mainland) meet on the top of Tantalus Drive, a steep two-mile jungle road, which ends close to downtown. It’s a free for all, adrenaline loaded, insanity driven, "go big or go home" style race… it will take place until the last man stands (there’s open street traffic during this unofficial race) or until the authorities grasp the meaning of 420 Tantalus…

"Shine your Light on the Darkness" Sunburn

Travel Windsurfing: at the outskirts of the Fijian atoll a hand full of windsurfers feel at home... Josh Angulo, Scott Carvill, Frank Baensch, Fabrice Beaux and Scott McKercher travel return to Frigates during a week of gale force winds and threatening swell heights… Since they feel "at home" in the labyrinth of reefs that lead to the spot, they decide to windsurf the 14 miles to the wave… while the support crew has to fight the storm in much slower boats. The dry reef that signals the end of the wave doesn’t seem to be part of their perception of the surroundings…

Travel Snowboard: It is hard to imagine, but every once in a while even the most dedicated waveriders get island fever. What they do? They fly to the snow capped mountains of the mainland and trade liquid H2O for its fluffy crystal cousin… In this Colorado segment our athletes try to get as much airtime as possible by utilizing a large man made ramp. As long as adrenaline is involved, these guys and girls will go for it!

Canoe Sailing: The Valley Isle (Maui) is world famous for its laid back atmosphere and gorgeous nature. Also, for its constantly strong trade winds. Sailing canoes from all the islands meet annually to push their equipment to the limits during the Aston Kaanapali Cup. Considering that the canoes are almost identical to the ancient Hawaiian version, they are so fast that it is amazing that they will give every windsurfer a run for their money…

Not only is the action incredible but the tropical Hawaiian surroundings make this segment a dream…

Sailing: Some people are simply born with the need for adrenaline. Peter Herschorn is one of them. A former world class ski-trick jumper who had a bad accident on the slopes that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He moved to Hawaii and is often seen by himself riding sizable waves on his kayak. His main passion though is speed sailing. He sails a carbon fiber, kevlar constructed, high tech trimaran in gale force wind conditions – the fastest sailboat in Hawaii. HXS joins him in the waters off Hawaii for a blazing segment over and through the rough ocean swells.
